Mbappe's Hat-trick Leads PSG to Impressive Win
Paris Saint-Germain put one foot in the Champions League quarterfinals with a 4-1 away win over Barcelona on Wednesday. Kylian Mbappe was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick to become only the third player to achieve this feat against Barcelona.
The 22-year-old French forward opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive error to slot home from close range. He doubled his tally just before half-time, racing onto a through ball from Angel Di Maria and finishing with aplomb.
Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the 65th minute, heading in a cross from Julian Draxler. Moise Kean added a fourth for PSG late on, while Lionel Messi scored a consolation penalty for Barcelona.
The result gives PSG a significant advantage heading into the second leg at the Parc des Princes on March 10. They have now won three of their last four matches against Barcelona, and will be confident of reaching the last eight.
For Barcelona, it was a disappointing night that extended their winless run to four games in all competitions. They will need to produce a much better performance in the return leg if they are to have any chance of overturning the deficit.
