Body of Belarus native found near Minsk

Tragedy has struck the world of professional tennis. Konstantin Koltsov, the partner of former world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, has been found dead near Minsk, Belarus. He was just 33 years old.

Koltsov's body was discovered on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, by police officers responding to a report of a missing person. The cause of death is still under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.

Sabalenka and Koltsov had been dating for several years and were engaged to be married. They welcomed their first child, a son named Noah, in 2022.

Sabalenka is currently ranked No. 2 in the world in singles and No. 1 in doubles. She has won 10 WTA titles, including two Grand Slams (the Australian Open in 2023 and Wimbledon in 2021).

Koltsov was a former professional hockey player who played for several teams in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He retired from hockey in 2021 to focus on his family.

The tennis world is mourning the loss of Koltsov. Many of Sabalenka's fellow players have expressed their condolences on social media.

"I am so heartbroken to hear about the passing of Konstantin," said Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion. "He was such a kind and loving person. My thoughts are with Aryna and their family during this difficult time."

"This is such a tragedy," said Rafael Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion. "Konstantin was a great guy and a wonderful partner to Aryna. He will be deeply missed."

Sabalenka has not yet released a statement on Koltsov's death.
